Toy Alert: A Hot New Doll For Girls “My Friend Cayla”

54 Flares 54 Flares ×

My daughter has always had a strong nurturing instinct, which is probably why she loves her baby dolls. The house is full of dolls, doll furniture and a variety of clothes but her most recent “baby” isn’t like the rest. Everyone, meet My Friend Cayla.

She isn’t your “traditional” 18in doll and she certainly doesn’t need to be babied, she’s more like a friend. She has the ability to access a bluetooth powered secure search engine which means she is interactive! Cayla talks to kids about subjects that interest them, plays games, tells stories, shows off her photo album and even answers questions.

Pulling Cayla out of the box, my daughter was immediately excited about her size – she could fit into her other 18in doll clothes. Her new friend also came with a brush and mirror which is exciting because apparently 5 year olds are all about the accessories. Once we got Cayla set up and paired with our iPhone via her app, she introduced herself! She has a mom, dad, brother and sister. Cayla had just got back from walking her dog at the park, something she loves to do!

My Friend Cayla

Before long, Cayla was asking Maddilyn if she had any pets, what their names were and more. Speaking with Cayla was a bit of a challenge. It’s important for kids to speak clearly which can be difficult for a 5 year old during “normal conversation” but may be easier for older girls. But that didn’t stop Maddilyn from falling in love with her. Soon Cayla was telling stories and they versed each other in a game of Tic-Tac-Toe.

Some of the questions you can ask Cayla:

  • Can you tell me a story?
  • What is the weather like today?
  • What is a baby Kangaroo called?
  • What is your favorite color?

Cayla Doll

While speaking with Cayla isn’t as natural as I had hoped, there is a very definite pattern to interacting with her, and kids must speak slowly and clearly. The more you interact with Cayla and get used to the nuances, the easier it becomes. Plus, it doesn’t seem to bother my daughter in the least since Cayla hasn’t left her side in the week she has had her. I have a feeling this is going to be a hot ticket item this Christmas, especially at $59.99.
