thredUP - This is a really great idea!  (Someone actually did what I’ve been thinking of – darn it!) I am really excited to share a new way to donate your children’s outgrown clothing, and actually earn some cash; it is through a company called ThredUp.  They are great company that allows you to not only purchase some gently used clothes, but also allows you to sell yours!

What is it?

thredUP is an online kids consignment shop, where you can save money (and time!) on all your favorite children’s clothing brands.

How often do you go through your children’s closet and pull out a lot of clothes they have outgrown or they just decided they do not like any more?  For us, we switch out clothes with the change of each season.  For instance, at the beginning of each summer we take out all of the winter clothes.  We set aside what is too worn to donate and then put the items that are still in good shape into a bag for goodwill or to a family in need if we know of any.  However, doing this with three children can create quite the accumulation of clothes!

How Does it Work?

  • Order a bag from ThredUp
  • Fill it up with gently used clothing that is still in good condition
  • Return it to ThredUp via USPS or UPS
  • ThredUp will process your high quality items and resell them through the marketplace

When you order your bag from ThredUp, there is a $4.95 deposit, however when that bag is returned your $4.95 is fully refunded.  Also, when you return your bag it should be stuffed and all items should be in outstanding condition.  It will take about 1 – 2 weeks to process your bag and then your account will show a credit for the cash back that is received.  You can cash out at anytime by putting in the amount you want to withdraw and have it sent to your PayPal account.

I also really like that you can purchase some great quality clothing through them at a fraction of the cost.  When you spend $40 or more, you will get free shipping.  Children grow out of clothing so quickly, I hate spending full-price on an outfit that will only last them 6 months. Another great feature of this company is with any items sent to them that cannot be resold, they enter it into their 100% Re-Use Program which is a partnership with national textile distributors and recyclers to ensure that every item is re-used and does not end up in a landfill.

I believe doing whatever I can to keep things out of a landfill is worth trying.  And, if I can save money and earn money all at the same time, then that is way too good of an offer to pass up.

Right now you can get 20% off your first thredUP order with promo code AUGUST20.
