When I came home to stay with the kids, we had to find every way possible to cut corners. I went through all of our expenses to weed out what we needed and what was not needed. Of the things that we needed I worked to see how we could reduce those costs. Whether that was phone service, Internet service, cable, or groceries I went through it all with a fine tooth comb. One of the areas I found I could decrease a significant expense in was auto insurance.
Save on Car Insurance
One of the best ways I found to see how much money I could save on car insurance was to do free cheap car insurance quotes online. I found that the car insurance I currently had did not have the best rates in my area. I ultimately ended up going with a different auto insurance company that saved us about $100 a month between our two vehicles.
Stick to a Budget
Once I widdled down our bills and found cheaper rates, it was then time to create a budget. When I created a budget I needed to take everything in to account. That means all of our fixed bills, gas, groceries, household and personal care needs, insurance, etc. It was necessary to pull at least three bank statements to make I did not miss any expenses. I also used those statements to get the average I spend on groceries, gas and anything else that may fluctuate. The average is the number I plugged into the budget sheet. Now the trick with having a budget is you have to actually stick to a budget for it to work! That means months that you are running short in one area, you have to try to make sacrifices in another area.
It is a definite change in lifestyle being home with our kids now, but one that I would never consider changing.
