I have known about this challenge for a few days now and it had given me plenty of time to fantasize about all the different ways Jake and I could kick start this challenge. Tonight we were supposed to start off big and my imagination had conjured up some great plans.
However, reality and a pint sized 2 year old had other plans. Let me set the scene: fruity exotic candles, my favorite massage oil, a scrap of lace and silk, my handsome husband..that was my fantasy. The real scene was NOTHING close.
After spending my day running in a million directions working, studying, taking exams, doing dishes, paying bills and caring for a toddler that would put the energizer bunny to shame; it wasn’t until after dinner that we finally got to settle down.
My parents called and requested to take Maddilyn (my 2 year old) for a few hours and Jake and I looked at each other – could we really be getting off that easy on Night 1? Nope. No sooner had Maddilyn left than my brother showed up and I couldn’t very well demand he leave so that we could “get busy” ..but I did think about it! He left and Maddilyn arrived back home. After bath and story time Maddilyn, who has been on the verge of a cold, decided she did not feel well and did not want to go sleep. By the time I finally had her wrestled into bed I was exhausted but hopeful.
I tip toe to my bedroom hoping to find the candles lit, the mood lighting on low and my husband waiting for me. Instead I’m greeted with the sounds of soft snoring, and the site of my husband hogging my pillow and blanket. Oh.No. Mommy did NOT shave her legs for nothing. So I did what any desperate mom on a 7 Day Challenge gone-wrong-from-the-start would do. I showed him there are nicer ways to wake up than breakfast in bed! ;) The rest is well..you know how it goes!
While it wasn’t anything plucked from a romance novel, it was reality and this is the life we love to live. In the end I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Today We Learned:
- You can’t always plan romance, roll with it. Life with kids is unpredictable but it’s wonderful, you just have to work a little harder at it.
- It’s all about attitude, just because you’re not in the mood doesn’t mean you can’t get there; you just need to be open to it.
Tomorrow is Day 2 and Jake is taking the lead. However, on Day 3 I take the lead! Ladies – What are you suggestions?! Has anyone decided to take the challenge with us? We would love to hear your experiences!
