Muppet domination continues in a hilarious new movie from Walt Disney Studios. Jason Segel, Acadamy Award nominee Amy Adams and Academy Award winner Chris Cooper joins everyone’s favorite Muppets and an all-star celebrity cast in a comic adventure for the whole family – The Muppets!
While on vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the worlds biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary and friend Mary uncover the diabolical plot of a greedy oil millionaire to destroy the Muppet Theater. Now, the Muppet loving trio must reunite Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and their friends to stage the greatest Muppet telethon ever and save their beloved theater. The gang is back together again.
I had no idea what to expect when I sat down to watch The Muppets. The only Muppet movie I had ever watched was “The Muppets Christmas Carol” and I knew this movie would have an entirely different tone. While I can’t say that I was surprised with The Muppets (because I was told it was a feel good family movie), I was very pleased!
I’ll admit at first I was thinking “Oh Boy..It’s a little cheesy..” but every time I was about to finish that thought some sort of comedic relief would happen to keep it from going that far! It was as if the writers knew exactly how far they could go, kudos to them! It wasn’t long before I became used to the style and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
One of my favorite aspects of the movie was the fact that it was acknowledged, repeatedly, that it was a just a movie. Things such as traveling by map were allowed because it was a movie, and creating a montage was suggested by 80’s Robot because it “speeds up a movie”. This aspect added to the hilarity.
The Muppet’s touched on so many all too real human emotions and experiences. Growing up, being different, finding yourself and a place where you belong to name just a few. So many older kids will be able to relate to some of the feelings Walter experiences when growing up an hopefully he can inspire them to have the same positive attitude.
While Miss Piggy will always be my favorite (what a diva!) I thoroughly enjoyed the antics of Statler and Waldorf. I also enjoyed all of the surprise appearances of various stars such as Whoopie Goldberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Salena Gomez and Jack Black (as if Jason Segel and Amy Adams weren’t enough!). I had no idea it was such a star studded cast.
I can’t stress enough what a feel-good, family movie this is. It has life lessons, music and fun for every age. The overall theme was happy, and even the bad guys turned good. However, it was all written so well that it wasn’t too much happy (if that makes sense!). I loved it. My young daughter didn’t just love it, she sang and danced with it! I hope this movie inspires more Muppets films because this one is definitely is a must own family film!
