ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars is pretty popular! According to Twitter’s Year in Review, it ranked #1 Hot Topic in Television, and the #2 Top Television Trend last year. Are any of you fans of the show?
Cast members and producers often tweet live during the episodes and the mysterious “A,” known in the show for sending revealing text messages, will sometimes “take over” the show Twitter handle. ABC Family has run previous Twitter promotions like the #PrettyLittleShhh photo contest where users tweeted pictures of themselves posing in the iconic “shhh” pose from the show’s key art. Marlene King, producer, retweeted her favorites during the season two premiere. You can follow the tweets on Pretty Little Liars Twitter with #prettylittleliars. This becoming more and more popular across the board as programs try to get the fans more involved and it makes me want to watch the show when it airs so I can interact.
Now ABC Family is turning to Twitter to promote the “A is Everywhere” photo contest, which was inspired by the popularity of fan photos on Twitter and Facebook. Chances are if you’re a fan of the show you see “A” everywhere, in your food, on your drive to work, in the clouds so here’s your chance to grab your camera or your phone and share it for a chance to win! Or just be creative!

“Our fans are fascinated by ‘A,’ the mysterious, unidentified villain on the show who leaves messages for our main characters threatening to reveal their secrets unless they do what she—or he—says,” said Danielle Mullin, VP Marketing, ABC Family. “These messages are always signed with a big letter ‘A.’ On our Pretty Little Liars Facebook page, we noticed that fans were posting photographs of the letter ‘A’ as they came across it in their daily lives—emphasizing the fact that no one can escape A’s reach! We decided to capitalize on this organic trend by creating a campaign called ‘A is Everywhere’—a great example of how social media allows us to connect with our fans and build upon the aspects of the show that are truly resonating with them.”
“Pretty Little Liars” will premiere all new episodes on on Monday, January 2, 8:00 PM–9:00 PM ET/PT. The show is based on the popular Sara Shepherd book series, the show follows the lives of four teenage girlfriends – Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer – who are being threatened by taunting texts from the mysterious “A” after their best friend Alison turns up dead after vanishing a year before. The texts reveal secrets only Alison would know. This January viewers will watch the girls take matters into their own hands and try to finally stop the tormenting.
