Cal Weaver (Carell) has the perfect life, good job, nice house, great kids and is married to his high school sweetheart and then he learns his wife cheated on him with a co-worker and wants a divorce. Now his life’s been turned upside down and he has a lot to learn about being single, dating, women and style. Weaver begins frequenting a bar night after night talking about his divorce until he’s noticed by Palmer (Ryan Gosling) and their friendship develops. Palmer’s a womanizer and takes Cal under his wing teaching him how to seduce women, how to dress and what to drink.

Cal and Emily aren’t the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Cal’s 13-year-old son, Robbie (Bobo), is in love with his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica (Tipton), who harbors a major crush of her own… on Cal. And even Jacob’s game is challenged when he tries his best lines on Hannah (Stone), a girl he just can’t seem to get out of his mind, maybe because she’s the first woman he’s ever met not impressed with his advances.

Ben and I watched this movie last night and I have to say, its one of the few movies that we actually laughed out loud in.  Several times. We both love Steve Carell and expected hilarity from him, but I was pleasantly surprised by how stinking funny (and handsome!) Ryan Gosling is.  The two play off each other really well and it’s easy to get engrossed in the story.

Without ruining anything for you guys that haven’t seen it yet – there was a plot twist towards the end that *totally* caught me off guard. I was not expecting it in the slightest and I’m usually that person that will “call it” 10 minutes into the movie.  I normally don’t watch too many movies more than once, but I’m definitely keeping this one in the line-up for when I need a good laugh!  If you’ve been wavering on whether or not you should buy/rent this – jump on in, you won’t be sorry!
