Couponing 101: How to Get Coupons for the Brands and Products You Already Love and Use

9 Flares Filament.io 9 Flares ×

Just a quick tip – which some of you may already know, but this was a huge discovery for me when I first started couponing.

  1. Take a look thru your pantry and on your grocery list for the items you use the most or maybe those you just never seem to find coupons for.
  2. Look up the company online and send them an email via their “contact us” page.
  3. Make sure you always leave your mailing address in all the emails you send – even if they don’t ask you for it.  Leave it at the end of your letter as a “signature”!

I’ve found that EVERY single email I have ever sent is responded to both via email AND snail mail. Usually the email response is bland and generic (usually just a thank you for contacting us), but the snail mail response has ALWAYS come with a coupon or two.  Some are high value and some are even for free products!

What do I write? What do they send?

Usually, I write a short note of praise. Many people make the mistake of thinking that a complaint will get them some sort of compensation.  They couldn’t be more wrong!!!  Companies and brands just LOVE hearing POSITIVE feedback about their products from you!!  I like to write about why I enjoy their product and give a short story about how it has helped me and my family.

For instance, I love the Scrubbing Bubbles products. Last year, I wrote them a note about how I loved how their flushable toilet wand.  I think that not only is it handy and easy to use, but it does such a great job.  I also love not having a dirty toilet brush sitting around all the time. I just thanked them for making my life easier and they sent me several coupons in the mail a couple days later – a few for $2 off and one for a FREE product of my choice!

A great couponing project for you to do is to set up a spreadsheet and make it a goal to send out 5 emails a day to various companies.  I did this in 2009 and about 2 weeks after starting, I was receiving coupons in my mailbox every day. Here is a sample of my log from 2009 to show you who I wrote to and what I received (the first date is when I emailed and the second date is when I received the coupon in my mailbox):

Comments

  1. It’s so simple to get coupons. There are so many sites offering coupon codes for free. Just search in Google and you will find your desire coupons. You can also get coupons from magazines.

  2. First off, this is in no way a guarantee – but it I wanted to tell you my experience in doing it. Pampers was one of the companies that sent me a bland email response, but as you can see a few day letter I received coupons in the mail :) Just make sure you always leave your mailing address in all the emails you send – even if they don’t ask you for it. Leave it at the end of your letter!

  3. wrote pampers last night, they have already responded and have not offered me anything. :(

  4. I have thought about doing this but have only have done it once. I am better with structured projects, so I think a series would be just what I need. I vote for having it organized into a series.
