RIO

In Theaters April 15

From the makers of the hit ICE AGE series comes RIO, a comedy adventure about taking a walk on the wild side. Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Blu and Linda think he’s the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart. Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. With the help of street smart Jewel, and a group of wise-cracking and smooth-talking city birds, Blu escapes. Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.

Trailer

Last month, I had the unique opportunity to attend a fun press event for RIO.  We were treated to some sneak “beak” (hardee har har) footage of the film, as well as a press conference with a few of the main actors – Anne Hathaway, George Lopez and Jamie Foxx. (The film also has Jesse Eisenberg, Leslie Mann, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Clement, Will.i.am and more on the cast roster!)  I’ll admit, I’m not a very big fan of Ice Age, but after seeing the passion the director had about this film and a few short clips, I’m hooked!

I'm the short one in the middle :)

During the press conference, one of the mommy bloggers in our group, Sarah of Mommy Lite Online, was able to get a really great question in. I just love their responses – great advice and words to live by!

Sarah: I write for a parenting blog, so my question is a little more geared towards family. I try to teach my children, about how life is not a dress rehearsal and that you’ve got to pursue your dreams. It was interesting just watching this particular movie. A lot of this filmwas about finding your feet and pursuing your dreams and believing in yourself. Is there any advice that–and this is actually for all three of you, Jamie, George, and Anne–you really are living the fantasy. You’re living something that kids go, I don’t know if I could do that. You face adversity every day along the path. What quick advice or one piece of advice could you give a kid or their parents to not give up in the face of adversity?

Mr. Jamie Foxx: Me and my boy were calculating the years a couple of days ago. I’m 43, so we calculated, in 35, 40 years, we won’t be here. And we were thinking, we might as well get it all in as far as living and enjoying your life, because if you look at it, I know it sounds a little weird to say this, but we’re living in the blink of a eye. So, whatever it is that you want to do, you gotta do it. I remember meeting President Obama, looking at him and going, damn, this guy is really our President, it tripped me out, thinking, you really went out and did it. So, if you look at stories like that, it’s just about freeing your mind, and being open to everything.

Mr. George Lopez: And in the movie when Blu wants to fly and he’s afraid. My character tells him, you have to feel it–you have to feel it in here. [tapping his heart] So, you have to feel it in there to be able to let yourself go and to fly.

Ms. Anne Hathaway: I think the only thing in life that you really have to worry about is how you treat other people, and if you mess up and you treat someone else badly, you apologize, and don’t apologize for anything else.

Mr. George Lopez: Right.

Ms. Anne Hathaway: You know? I think you be yourself and go for it. And then–just a little bit of practical advice–when you’re doing something and it feels really hard, what I always do is — this is such a dumb example. But, I don’t love exercising —

Ms. Anne Hathaway: Some of it’s more fun than others. So, what I do is if I am on the treadmill and you don’t want to finish the thing, and you look at it, you say, okay, this is 20 minutes versus the rest of my life.

Mr. George Lopez: Yeah.

Ms. Anne Hathaway: I’m going to spend the rest of my life doing so many other things. I can do this for 20 minutes.

Mr. George Lopez: Wow.

Ms. Anne Hathaway: And so, I just think if you break it down into achievable goals, you’ll wind up achieving more than you ever thought you could.

Mr. George Lopez: Well said.

Ms. Anne Hathaway: Thank you.

While I can’t give you any details of the movie (just yet!), I am excited to let you know that Rio has joined up with the makers of Angry Birds to bring us ANGRY BIRDS RIO!  ANGRY BIRDS RIO will launch with 45 dedicated levels and will regularly add new levels via app updates. The game will be available for download on smart phones and tablets worldwide.  Now that I have an iPod Touch, I can’t wait for this to come out :)

This unique spin-off of ANGRY BIRDS will take flight around the world in March, coinciding with RIO’s gala world premiere event. To celebrate the partnership and give fans a sneak preview of the story surrounding ANGRY BIRDS RIO, Rovio and Fox have posted a video here.  If you’re one of the millions of Angry Birds addicts out there, you’ll definitely want to check this out!

After seeing the trailer above (you did watch it, didn’t you?) and the commercial during Super Bowl, what do you guys think?  Will this be something you’ll take the kids to go see?
