Review & #Giveaway: @BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light (ends 9/20)

Whistler is probably more well traveled than most adults I know.   In the 9 short months he’s been outside the womb, he has been to Palm Springs 3 times, on a ski trip to Mammoth Mountain, flown to Seattle twice and gone on a road trip to ski Whistler, Canada.  His weekly trips to Grandma’s house has us all experts at throwing together overnight bags, diaper necessities and favorite toys in a jiffy.

We tote the walker, the jumper, his favorite monkey and books back and forth *constantly*, but even though we have one of those nice big Pack and Go type play yards – it unfortunately never makes the trip.  Even though it’s pretty easy to setup and break down, its just TOO HEAVY and too big for me to lug around in my little Jetta.  (no, it has nothing to do with laziness…usually)

And please hold your laughter, but I can remember scanning items at Babies R Us for our baby registry and telling Ben how we would be able to take that monstrosity with us to the beach this summer while we did our usual weekly volleyball and football with friends.  Now that it’s Labor Day and summer is over, this memory is hilarious for two reasons.  #1 there is *no way* I’d EVER consider lugging that 40lb play pen to the beach now, with 9 mos of motherhood under my belt.  #2 we never stepped foot on the beach this summer – not once.  (very sad for a family that lives 4 blocks away and has 3, yes THREE surfboards strewn about the livingroom).  But I digress…

Even though summertime may technically be over for the majority of the US, we spoiled citizens of Southern California are blessed with virtual 70 degree year-round weather and what I like to call, a true “Endless Summer”.  As such, I’ve been on the lookout for a viable alternative to the mini corral in our livingroom, to not only take on adventures to the beach – but also be able to use at Grandma’s or even for movie night over at a friend’s house.

So, as you can imagine, I was simply delighted to have the chance to take BabyBjorn’s Travel Crib Light for a whirl!  At first, I was a little questioning of the lack of pizazz, sparkle and sheer number of words on the manufacturer’s website to describe this product.  I mean, a really great product usually has a big long description with a huge feature set and list of attributes, right?  This is what the website has to say:

The BABYBJÖRN Travel Crib Light is the perfect crib to take with you on trips. It can be set up in record time, in one easy movement. It weighs only 5 kgs/11lbs and is light and easy to carry in its carrying case. Soft fabric makes it snug and cozy for your child. Both the mattress cover and the bed fabric can be machine-washed. The mattress cover and all fabric parts that come into contact with your child have been approved in accordance with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1.

You can use the BABYBJÖRN Travel Crib Light for newborns and up until your child is about three years old.

It wasn’t until after I received it that I understood why.  The majority of this product’s greatness lies within its simplicity!  There is no diaper changing station, no vibrations, no music, no umbrella, no mobile and no newborn napper.

But what I’d really like to point out is that there is also NO back-breaking weight and NO fuss!  This beauty has the key features you need and that’s it – which truly is the best part about it!  It’s safe, lightweight, soft, portable and functional :)  PLUS the fabric is easily removable and can be washed in your washing machine!  You certainly can’t do that with those other play yards!

The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib is super easy to setup and disassemble.  See for yourself with Baby Bjorn’s visual instructions on their website OR check out the quick video I shot of me assembling (about 36 seconds) and then disassembling (about 1 minute) it in amazing time!!  (Please excuse the quality of the video – I had to be creative about a tri-pod…but you get the idea – ITS EASY!!)
