Now that I’m a SAHM, unfortunately, I no longer have health or dental insurance :( As such, I need to make sure I take extra good care of my teeth! I’ve always used a sonic toothbrush, but stopped last year because I could no longer find brush heads for my old out-dated unit. Boy, was that a mistake!!! I never really realized how much of a difference using a Sonic toothbrush makes over a manual brush until I stopped using one. I have never tried a Water Flosser before and was excited to see what it was like. (All I can picture in my head was lying in the dentist chair with a mouth full of water, drooling into a bib and possibly, ok mostly, missing that little paper cup I’m desperately trying to hold near my mouth.) Waterpik Water Flossers are supposed to be easier and more effective than string floss and I wanted to see for myself!

The setup was really easy (or non-existent) – just pull it out of the box, attach one of the included tips, fill the water reservoir, plug it in and go! My first go around – I sort of forgot to pause it when I took it out of my mouth and I sprayed it all over the place – which was pretty funny. But after a few uses, I easily became accustomed to using the water flosser. It’s definitely fun to use, and I could never say that about flossing with string. I actually *look forward* to using it every day, go figure! My dentist will be so proud of me (when I can finally go see him, that is!).

I really like that it has 10 different levels. This really helps in getting used to the machine and also adjusting for the different areas in your mouth. I like to use a higher setting for my molars and something a softer for my front teeth, since they are a little more sensitive. There is also a convenient button on the handle that allows you to “pause” the flow of water (like when you need to spit) without having to turn it all the way off. You can also store 4 of the tips in the flip-top of the reservoir, for convenience. I really like everything about this product, but if I had to have one “wish” item, it would be that it was cordless. But guess what? They actually make a cordless version too!

I’ve also been using the Waterpik Sensonic Professional Toothbrush (SR-1000) for about a week now. It comes with 3 different brush heads and is also ready to go right out of the box.

I’ve already noticed a HUGE difference in the way my mouth feels. The biggest difference I noticed was the very first time I used it. Afterwards, as I ran my tongue along my teeth, it truly felt like I had just had a cleaning at the dentist. My mouth felt really clean. Two minutes seems like an eternity when you are brushing your teeth manually and I *know* I’ve probably never really spent the entire time brushing, even though it may have felt like it. With this brush, not only am I getting amazing sonic cleaning, but I know I’m spending the right amount of time brushing. My only wishlist item would be to have more settings than just high and low. My previous brush had about 4 so you could gradually work your way up to a comfortable speed, which was nice.
