“Like all 4moms products, the mamaRoo is truly remarkable. From planning to production, it was shaped by the expertise of designers, doctors, nurses, and most importantly, hundreds of parents. Our team used motion sensors to measure movements of real moms and dads as they soothed their babies, and guess what we found? Parents don’t vibrate like bouncy seats or swing like swings. They bounce and sway. So we built the mamaRoo to do just that – to move “like you do.”
This isn’t just another infant seat. It’s our baby. And we made it for yours.”
I have been wanting to try this hot little number for months now and was delighted when given the opportunity to work with 4moms to review it!
Setup
The mamaRoo comes in an easy-to-open flip up box with a convenient carry handle.
When I first opened it, I noticed that there are instructions on how to package the product back up into the box too! That’s handy! We have a teeny tiny house and are really limited by space so its a great idea to be able to pack this back up when Whistler grows out of it and save it for the next baby :) (don’t tell Ben I said that!)
The pieces are very neatly organized and easily removed from the packaging. There are about 7 pieces that need to be assembled together – that’s it!
Once you pull everything out of the box, there are basically about 5 steps and one little screw required to get you to a finished piece.
As usual, I went ahead and timed myself to see how long putting this thing together would take. I, of course, was just too impatient for Ben to get home from work, so with little Whistler watching from his playpen, I pushed up my sleeves and got to work!
I started with this photo of the just opened box at 11:16am.
I went through the easy setup instructions in this manner…
Place base in a nice open work area :) |
Slide Center Support Tube thru base |
Slide End Cap onto Center Support Tube until it “clicks” and use 1 screw to secure |
Attach Seat Side Rails (they each “click” into place and are very smartly marked with letters so that you know you have to correct one going into the correct hole!! – No guesswork :)) |
Zip the seat into place and snap at top and bottom to secure. Place mobile (if desired) on top |
That’s it folks – it’s that easy! By 11:25am, just 9 minutes later, I was looking at this:
NOTE: The mamaRoo has a max weight limit of 25lbs. Whistler is only 18lbs, but the angle of this picture makes him look too big for it. He actually fits very nicely into the seat with room to spare.
*DIS-ASSEMBLY* I’ve also taken the time to disassemble the mamaRoo and place it back into the box just to see if it was just as easy, and it was! You basically go in reverse order and unlock the balls (those clicks you heard earlier) just by pressing in designated holes and they come right apart. I was really impressed with this! Most things once you assemble them, you’re stuck. This makes it absolutely great if you happen to go on a trip and you *must* take this with you. It fits neatly right back into the original box (so don’t throw that away guys!!!)
Usage and Features
When we had Whistler, I wondered why no one made something that mimicked riding in a car or swaying like a mom does. I thought for sure there had to be something out there, and if there wasn’t, that I was going to make millions off it! Hah – well turns out someone did! The mamaRoo is above and beyond any swing or bouncer you have ever seen. It bounces up and down and sways from side to side, just like parents do when comforting their babies. It was made to move like you do!
This would have really been great for when he was a newborn. Babies just love to be held, all the time, and this seat really does move in a way that no other does! It has a speed dial as well so, depending on babies mood or age, you can set it to a very slow, gentle motion on any of the 5 options, or crank up to high speed which is what Whistler likes.
The overhead toy mobile is very easily removed or turned in any direction. The soft balls just pop into place and you can choose what side baby sees. There is a black and white side to grab younger ones’ attentions and a colored side for when they get a little older. I like that they aren’t permanently attached as a mobile so you can use them separately for play time and also throw them in the washer for easy clean-up!
Speaking of easy clean-up, the hammock like seat is a one piece unit that simply zips onto the side rails. Its very easy to remove and put back, just in case there is an accident :) The seat also has a good degree of tilt to it. You can set the seat for a full recline or almost sitting up and anywhere in between! The machine is also smart enough to warn you when the seat adjust is not locked down and will not let you use the unit without doing so first. Great safety feature, guys.
Just above the control panel is an audio jack so you can plug in your iPhone (or ANY player really that has a headphone jack!) and play your music through the base unit’s audio system. Whistler loves listening to waves – which is perfect because they also included 5 nature sounds to play instead of music if you want.
I recommend using either of the sound features while using the mamaRoo because the motor does make some noise. It’s not incredibly noisy or annoying, but it makes an amount of noise that is to be expected. Also, the higher the speed setting you use, the more noise it makes. I will say that it is a sort of ambient “white” noise and I think that if your baby were to sit in this from the get go, that sound would probably become very soothing for him/her, especially being associated with the calming swaying movements!
I also wanted to mention that 4moms is so innovative in almost every way – not only for their products, but also how they interact with you, the consumer. They really do pay attention to the little details. When you visit their website, you get an immediate feel of friendliness and trust. They have a great program called 4moms Insider where you can join and earn points, earn discounts, win a weekly giveaway and also volunteer to test the new products they make! How cool is that? They also want to hear your feedback and reviews. I encourage you to join!
