(BistroMD: French dip with caramelized onions served with creamy mushroom soup)
When I was pregnant with Whistler, I gained a lot of weight. A LOT. Well, for numbers sake, it falls within an average range, however, when you consider how small I am and what I started out at – its a crazy amount! I’ve always been a petite girl, roughly 105lbs and a very tall 5 feet 1 AND A HALF :) inches. By my delivery date, I had gained a whopping 42 pounds – eeeekkkk!!! Thats 40% of my body weight – woah nelly! I’m sure the week I was craving burgers and ate nothing but hamburgers morning, noon and night for 5 days straight had absolutely nothing to do with it…
To make matters worse, I had a C-Section so I was unable to exercise or move around as much as I wanted to right off the bat. Amazingly enough, I lost 25 pounds in the first 6 weeks. How? I have no clue. I honestly did NOTHING. The most exercise I got was my daily stroller walk down to CVS to grab my fix of freebies. :) By the time Whistler was 3 months old, I was down to 115, only 10 lbs to go. Then all of a sudden, it stopped. I’ve been stuck at 115 for 4 months now. (I’ve considered training to type faster with one hand so that I can do dumbbell presses with the other while blogging…or how about a laptop Bjorn so I can blog and walk at the same time?)
I *know* my issue is definitely lack of exercise (but there’s so many deals that need to be found!), but it’s also diet too. You are what you eat, right? All the models and actresses that get back into amazing shape so quickly probably have both physical trainers and chefs cooking the perfect meals for them every day! Most of us just don’t have time to make well-rounded, chef-quality meals 3 times a day, 7 days a week, much less make sure they are healthy and have the right proportions of protein, calories, fat, etc.
So in the middle of my weight loss slump, I came across BistroMD, a diet food home delivery service. They combine the science of nutrition with culinary cooking to provide delicious gourmet meals designed to help you lose weight! It’s a complete gourmet weight-loss diet scientifically formulated to help you rebalance and retrain your metabolism over a period of weeks. Best part – it’s all delivered straight to your door and it’s so convenient and easy to fit into your everyday life. You can customize your plan to account for any allergies or foods you don’t like :) If you’d like to see what else sets them apart, be sure to check out their FAQ here.
I was given the opportunity to test out BistroMD for one week. I was sent their Full Week Plan with Snacks, which is 7 days of Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks. It came in a large box with dry ice so that everything was frozen upon delivery. I promptly unpacked everything and my freezer was packed with what appeared to be just your average everyday frozen dinners.
But don’t let the simple packaging fool you! The food inside is really good! And by really good, I mean just plain delicious. Not only was a thoroughly impressed with how every single meal I ate tasted, but the freshness of the vegetables and bright colors of the meals were surprising too. Each one has a detailed description of the meal, as well as nutritional content and preparation instructions. I took the easiest route possible – I used the microwave for them all.
Ben despises the microwave and refuses to eat food cooked with it. But when I put these on the dinner table (yes, I served him one of my meals as an experiment :) he was my unknowing guinea pig!) one night, he dug right in and all I heard was a muffled “this is really good, babe…” as he shoveled corn into his mouth.
(these are actual pictures I took of a couple of the dinner meals)
(BBQ Pork Dinner with Roasted Green Beans and Corn – this was FAB. The BBQ sauce was sweet and spicy and the corn out of this world!!) This isn’t the best pic in the world – but the food was awesome!
(Stuffed Chicken with Baby Carrots and Green Beans Almondine)
One of my favorite meals was the
Chicken Fresco: A grilled breast of chicken is topped with a quartered artichoke, sun-dried tomato and caper saute, complemented by a domestic mushroom risotto cake and seasoned haricot vert. 410 calories.
My comments: Nice sized chicken breast. Plenty of flavor. Articoke heart was very fresh as well as the green beans! Impressed. And I don’t even like capers!!!
I was sent a very nice variety of meals (the menus rotate weekly so you’ll always get something different than the previous week) and really liked the ease of being able to eat healthy – quickly and brainlessly! I could finally make myself a nutritious breakfast and lunch AND eat it in less time than Whistler would get bored of any one toy (about 10-15 minutes). They really do make it easy to eat right for weight loss.
And guess what? I lost 2 lbs that week :) BistroMD definitely gets a thumbs up from me! No wonder Dr. Phil calls them “the best home meal delivery available”.
