Air-O-Swiss 7135 Warm & Cool Mist Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier

Did you know that proper humidification helps your baby to feel and sleep better? Dry air tends to cause discomfort to our nasal passages and throat. Properly humidified air not only reduces this irritation, but it also reduces the amount of dust that is in the air too! Which means you and baby are breathing cleaner, better feeling air! It can even help to delay or completely avert the onset of allergies. I did not know any of this before having a baby and am certainly glad I do now!

I never would have thought that having properly moisturized air would have so many other benefits like:

*reduces discomfort, tiredness, sickness.
*reduces susceptibility to colds.
*reduces chapped lips, dry, red eyes and dry, itchy skin.
*can help you recover sooner from a cold.
*reduces damage to wooden objects (not only furniture, but your expensive wood floors too!)

*helps to keep your voice tuned.

After finding this out, I knew I just had to get a humidifier for our home and was thrilled at the chance to review the Air-O-Swiss 7135 Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier. Now, there are a lot of humidifiers out on the market with prices ranging from $20 to $1,000. After reading through several hours worth of material, I came to the conclusion that I definitely wanted a model that could do both Warm and Cold Mist and I needed to be conscientious of problems with mineralization as well as bacterial growth (ew!). I found that Air-O-Swiss is rated very highly over and over again by professionals and consumers alike and that they have a reputation for being the cleanest humidifier due to their patented Ionic Silver Stick that prevents microbial growth!

Feature Outline

* I really like that this unit has a demineralization cartridge. What does this mean? Means no yucky white residue that seems to be common in other units without having to use distilled water. However, if you wanted to take this extra step – it certainly doesn’t hurt :) (Should be replaced every 2-3 months and is currently running about $14.99 on Amazon)
* Can be used for rooms up to 650 sf.
* Cool mist feature is perfect for usage around kids – you don’t have to worry about burns! But even the “warm” mist is only 104 degrees so I don’t see it as a cause for concern either. Some warm misters get dangerously hot! Please be careful :)
* The Ionic Silver Stick keeps the water base microbe free for up to one year of continuous use. (Should be replaced once a year and is currently running about $24.99 on Amazon)
* The water gets pre-heated to 80 °C which eliminates bacteria
* I always thought humidifiers were loud. This little gem is really very quiet! Its actually the perfect amount of “white” noise to help Whistler get to sleep. It’s surprisingly peaceful to sleep to.
* Cool LCD display with a timer feature is really handy to conserve energy and make sure you only run it when you want to.

The water tank holds 2 gallons of water. It’s a little tricky to refill, but easy enough once you get the hang of it. Using it in our house, I have to refill the tank about every 3 days (with continuous use). My favorite feature is the Automatic setting. You set the unit to your desired humidity and it will self-regulate to keep the room at that temperature! No turning the level up and down manually like with other units. It also has a nifty sleep timer that will shut off after 8 hours. Seems like such a simple feature to have – but once again, not too many units have this! Cleaning of the unit is really easy and only takes about 5 minutes, once a week.

Overall, I’m really happy with this product and hope it to be a valuable addition to our home. Not only will it help to keep all 3 of us more comfortable in our new home, but also extend the life and brilliance of our brand new hardwood floors :)
