When I had my baby shower, I really wanted it to be something fun for everyone and not just a girlie get-together.  We had a totally non-traditional shower with boys & girls, a bbq, football on the tv, a custom cake that I made, a raffle, silly games and even dancing!  I did a bunch of research online to see what sorts of free baby shower games I could find and then I chose my favorites and adapted them for me and my style :)

For instance, I made the Dirty Diaper Raffle game from white felt and safety pins – it was really cute and inexpensive. I also created a Baby Olympics Game for people to play in teams of 2. It included things like feeding each other baby food, diapering and clothing a baby doll and a stroller obstacle course/relay race!

Instead of the usual sign a picture frame or fill out advice cards, I chose to do something to capture my friend’s personalities.  I bought a few packs of newborn onesies and t-shirts and a package of washable fabric pens from Michaels.  I asked everyone who came to please create a shirt for Whistler and sign it somewhere too so we knew who made what.  We got some really really cute ones and he wore our “favorites” over and over again.  This was probably my favorite keepsake from the shower.

I also found a bunch of free printable baby shower games and was able to get some great ideas from those too!  For instance, we also had a betting pool in which I made a calendar and people could “buy” dates (am/pm) they thought would be his birthday.  We kept half of the money to pay for the food/drinks for the baby shower and the other half went to a grand prize winner :)

But my most talked about and tastiest, extra special contribution was the Baby Shower Cake that I made the night before.  I have this crazy ability to decorate cakes (I’ll have to share mine with you sometime!) and found a really cute Bear in a Crib design at the Wilton site! (They have soooo many really cute baking ideas and recipes there – you should definitely check it out!)

What did you guys do to make your baby showers special? If you haven’t had yours yet, what sorts of ideas did you have in mind?

Comments

  1. I was intrigued by the decorating the baby shirts idea. A question – did you have to put something in the middle of the shirt (cardboard, etc) to keep the markers from bleeding to the other side?

  2. Nice Idea

We took photos of me with each guest and then we printed them off right there and then they each made a scrapbook page for me. I'll never forget who was there.
